Meadow Lake Wind Farm is located in northwestern Indiana in White County.  The site offers many advantages as a location for a modern wind power project, including a strong, proven wind resource; excellent access to a transmission line; compatibility with existing land uses and proximity to power markets.  The wind farm co-exists well with the agricultural land use in the area; allowing farmers to continue growing crops while generating revenue form the wind turbines.

Meadow Lake I Wind Farm has an installed capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) – enough to power 60,000 average Indiana homes with clean energy each year.  Phase II has an installed capacity of 99 MW – enough to power 30,000 average Indiana homes with clean energy each year.  Horizon Wind Energy’s Development Team is working on additional phases that could potentially have an installed capacity of up to 700 additional megawatts in White and Benton Counties.  Phases III and IV are under construction with a combined proposed installation capacity of 202 MW.

Meadow Lake Wind Farm yields significant economic benefits to the community in the form of payments to landowners, local spending and annual community investment.  In addition, the development, construction and operation of the wind farm have generated significant job creation.  Phase I has already created over 450 construction jobs and over 23 jobs in operations. Modern wind turbine generates are robust, sophisticated, high-tech machines designed to capture the kinetic energy of the wind and convert it into electricity.  The gear box and three-bladed rotor are perched atop towers that are 262 feet in height.  The three-bladed rotor spans 269 feet in diameter and turns at about 14 revolutions per minute (rpm).
